Established in 2023, Controlled Combat's focus is an enjoyable, professional sports experience for competitors and spectators.
Controlled Combat is not only about the competitors, but the spectators and fans of Jiu Jitsu.
The vision of Controlled Combat is to bring the Jiu Jitsu community together, focus on the talents of competitors, and create an environment of learning.
Our Story
Controlled Combat was started in 2023 by, owner, Mike Deyo. Mike started his martial arts journey at a very young age in Judo where he competed in tournaments around the United States. This led to an interest in all disciplines including Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Wrestling, and eventually Mixed Martial Arts.
As an Adult, Mike managed professional kickboxing athletes and mixed martial artists throughout the Nation. He realized he had a passion for assisting athletes’ growth personally and professionally.
Mikes son began training Jiu Jitsu in January 2022 at the age of four. His competitiveness, eagerness, and love of the sport allowed him to assist as a coach in the gym which led to a competition team in September 2022. In 2023, Mike decided to plan the first Controlled Combat Jiu Jitsu event with many more to come in the various disciplines of combat sports.

Another event in the books! Congratulations to Pablo Mesquita for winning the cash bracket. He came from Pittsburgh and really showed his talents on the mat. Super impressive victories. A huge thank you to The Mount for hosting our event. CC cares very much about community partnerships and The Mount has been exceptional. See everyone June 28 in Gaithersburg, MD!

CC finished its largest and smoothest event yet. Thank you to everyone that was able to make it and a huge congratulations to Lucas Montalvao for winning the Male absolute cash bracket and the $500 prize!
